Casablanca Amazigh Theater Festival celebrates 25 years of cultural recognition
The eighth edition of the Casablanca Amazigh Theater Festival is underway, marking the 25th anniversary of the historic Ajdir speech by King Mohammed VI which established official recognition for Amazigh language and culture in Morocco.
The festival features a variety of theatrical performances, workshops, and seminars. Key highlights include a national competition for Amazigh culture featuring plays such as ‘Ighoud’, ‘Afrak’, ‘Walo dhi Rakhawi’, and ‘Aawad Nouawad’. Discussions will also focus on the necessity of creating a national center for documenting Moroccan theatrical heritage.
In addition to the performances, the event includes intellectual sessions aimed at restructuring the theatrical landscape in the Casablanca-Settat region through improved governance and regional development. The festival also includes tributes to notable figures, including a memorial for the late artist Mohammed Ziyat and honors for Abu Ali Abdelali and writer Safi Moumen Ali.
