Casablanca and Qalyubia authorities implement flood prevention measures
Local authorities in Casablanca, Morocco, and Qalyubia, Egypt, are implementing proactive measures to prepare infrastructure for the upcoming rainy season and prevent flooding.
In Casablanca, elected officials and representatives from the Casablanca-Settat Regional Multi-Service Company have begun field operations to monitor and clean sewage drains. These efforts, including inspections in the Maarif district, aim to remove obstructions and ensure the drainage system can handle heavy rainfall to prevent street flooding and property damage.
In Qalyubia, Governor Hossam Abdel Fattah has directed urgent technical upgrades to improve stormwater drainage. Completed works include increasing the number of storm drains in the Sandanhour tunnel in Banha, expanding the collection chamber at the Zaki junction tunnel in Toukh, and installing an additional pump in the Farneoni area of Shubra El Kheima. These measures are being coordinated with the Qalyubia Water and Wastewater Company to ensure vital sites and tunnels are ready for winter weather.
