Casablanca begins census for Kariane Rahamna slum relocation
Authorities in Casablanca have launched the first phase of a census and documentation process to relocate residents of the Kariane Rahamna slum in the Sidi Moumen district. A joint committee, including local authorities and housing officials, has begun recording household data, verifying documents, and using electronic registration to create a database for the resettlement program.
The initiative is part of the ‘Cities Without Slums’ program, aimed at eliminating substandard housing in Morocco’s economic capital. While residents have expressed relief and optimism after years of waiting for dignified housing, concerns remain regarding the financial burden. Under the current support mechanism, the state contributes 150,000 dirhams (approximately 15 million centimes) per apartment, leaving questions about the ability of low-income families to cover the remaining costs.
To facilitate the transition, a single window has been established at the Al Aman administrative annex to receive files and assist citizens with the necessary paperwork.
