Casablanca museum to host maritime history exhibition

The Musée de la Fondation Abderrahman Slaoui in Casablanca will host an exhibition titled ‘Beyond the Seas: Morocco and the Netherlands in the Age of Pirates’ from October 15 to December 15, 2026. Presented by Histoire Vivante du Maroc (HVM) and DAR Cultural Agency, the event explores the maritime, diplomatic, and commercial ties between Morocco and the Netherlands during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Inspired by the research of Moroccan historian Leïla Maziane, the exhibition aims to present Atlantic history from a Moroccan coastal perspective. The experience begins with a 360-degree immersive installation by artist Muhcine Ennou, simulating a voyage through calm waters, storms, and naval battles. The display will feature 3D ship reproductions, ancient maps, flags, and manuscripts.

The project involves a collaboration between Moroccan and Dutch creators, artisans, and scenographers. To complement the exhibition, a program of ‘History Talks’, ‘Creative Talks’, and educational workshops will be held, featuring experts in heritage, digital creation, and historical research.
