Casal di Principe launches remediation plan for illegal landfill

Authorities in Casal di Principe have launched a structured plan to characterize and remediate a massive illegal landfill discovered in the Cantarella (also known as Casarella) area. The site, which has suffered from years of illegal dumping and environmental degradation, is now being addressed through a partnership between the municipal administration, led by Mayor Ottavio Corvino and Environment Councilor Menotti Madonna, and the Extraordinary Commissioner for the Terra dei Fuochi, headed by General Giuseppe Vadalà.

The initiative began following a report from a concerned citizen. Local technical offices conducted reconnaissance and screening to assess the extent of contamination and estimate the financial resources required for restoration. Due to the high complexity and prohibitive costs of the operation, the municipality has engaged higher-level institutional channels to manage the cleanup.
