Casal Lumbroso housing residence sparks protests in Rome

Tensions are rising at the Casal Lumbroso residence in Rome following the arrival of families evacuated from the Spin Time occupation. Long-term residents, some of whom have lived in the facility for over a decade despite its intended temporary nature, are protesting what they describe as unequal treatment by the Rome municipality.

Critics, including representatives from the Lega party, have highlighted the high costs of the housing system. Approximately 80 families reside at the facility, costing the city an estimated 1.2 million euros annually, plus an additional 200,000 euros for security. Protesters argue that while long-term residents face issues such as pests and inadequate services, the new arrivals from Spin Time may receive preferential treatment, including proposed shuttle services.

The facility was originally designed to host individuals in housing emergencies for a maximum of 24 months, but many occupants have remained for much longer. The controversy centers on the perceived disparity between those who have waited years for public housing through official channels and those arriving via recent evacuations.
