Casale Monferrato holds memorial event for Hiroshima and asbestos victims

The third annual “Un albero per la Memoria” (A Tree for Memory) event took place on August 6 in the Ronzone district of Casale Monferrato. Organized by Librarti APS in collaboration with the Yamato cultural association and AFeVA, the initiative celebrates a sapling grown from a Hibakujumoku—a tree that survived the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

The event serves as a dual memorial for the victims of the atomic bomb and the victims of asbestos, connecting the two tragedies through themes of suffering and justice. The sapling is located in the Urban2 Garden, an area significantly impacted by the former Eternit plant.

The commemoration included a theatrical performance by the Collettivo Teatrale C. E. T., based on Barbara Corino’s research into the history of the Ronzone district, and a musical contribution by cellist Erika Patrucco.
