Casalecchio di Reno: Inclusion banner burned at kindergarten
A banner reading ‘Qui nessun* è stranier*’ (Here no one is a stranger) was set on fire and completely destroyed overnight in front of the Don Lorenzo Milani kindergarten in Casalecchio di Reno, near Bologna.
The banner had been created and displayed by parents at the school to promote a message of inclusion. The incident has drawn strong condemnation from the Cgil and Flc Cgil trade unions in Bologna.
Michele Bulgarelli, general secretary of the Cgil in Bologna, described the act as an attempt to “bring back the hands of history” in cities and schools. The unions linked the arson to a “widespread climate of hate” and criticized government rhetoric regarding immigration, characterizing the event as an attack on the free circulation of ideas and an attempt at intimidation.
