Casalmaggiore approves new data center at former industrial site
The municipality of Casalmaggiore has approved an implementation plan to transform the former “ex Sereni” furnace site in Vicobellignano into a small-scale data center. The project aims to regenerate a disused industrial brownfield area, adhering to regional laws regarding data center development and land consumption.
Operated by the Italian company CS Casalmaggiore srl, the facility will occupy less than three hectares of the original 23-hectare site. To ensure sustainability, the center will be powered by an attached 7 MWe photovoltaic system for self-production and will utilize cooling technologies that require no water consumption.
The project was developed by Lombardini22, based on a concept by the international architecture firm MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects.
