Casalnuovo station opens on Napoli-Bari high-speed rail line
The new Casalnuovo station is now operational on the Napoli-Cancello section of the Napoli-Bari high-speed/high-capacity (AV/AC) line. Built entirely underground by the Nacav Consortium led by Webuild on behalf of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), the station replaces the previous stop to strengthen rail connections within the Naples metropolitan area.
On weekdays, Trenitalia will provide 63 regional connections offering over 49,000 seats, serving routes such as Napoli-Caserta via Cancello and Napoli-Vairano-Cassino. On holidays, 26 connections will be available with approximately 19,000 seats. This marks the third station activated on the Cancello variant, following Afragola and Acerra.
Tullio Ferrante, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, stated that the activation represents a significant step in connecting local territories to the national rail network and enhancing mobility in Southern Italy. The completion of the Napoli-Cancello lot brings the total operational high-speed line on the Napoli-Bari route to 55 kilometers.
