San Donà di Piave: Woman killed by waste truck while walking daughter to school

A 42-year-old woman, Lavdije Isteri, was killed in a fatal accident in San Donà di Piave, near Venice, while walking her 9-year-old daughter to school. The incident occurred around 8:00 AM in the Passarella district on Via Paolo VI.

According to reports, Isteri was struck by a Veritas waste collection truck while using a pedestrian crossing. The company stated the vehicle was performing a low-speed right turn and that the woman was in a “blind spot,” making her invisible to the 59-year-old driver and the worker on the rear platform.

The victim's daughter was present during the collision but remained physically uninjured, though she was treated for shock. Local authorities and emergency services, including the fire department, worked to recover the woman from under the heavy vehicle. The driver was taken to the hospital in a state of shock, and investigations by the local police are ongoing to determine exact responsibility.
