Rome Prosecutor reopens Pier Paolo Pasolini murder investigation
The Rome Prosecutor's Office has opened a new investigation into the 1975 murder of Italian intellectual, poet, and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. The decision comes 51 years after Pasolini was found dead at the Idroscalo di Ostia.
The new inquiry, assigned to substitute prosecutor Silvia Santucci, follows a formal complaint filed by attorney Stefano Maccioni. Maccioni, who has represented Pasolini's cousin and currently serves as legal counsel for the Lazio Order of Journalists, claims that new evidence and a previously unheard witness could challenge the long-standing judicial conclusion that Giuseppe Pelosi acted alone.
Maccioni argues that scientific evidence gathered over the last 18 years contradicts the original verdict. The investigation aims to explore potential accomplices and investigate theories regarding political motives, including possible links to far-right or neo-fascist organizations.
Separately, the Centro Studi Pier Paolo Pasolini is organizing commemorative events in Casarsa della Delizia and Udine from November 4 to 7. These events, including the Academiuta Pasolini, will focus on Pasolini's legacy as a polemical journalist and his influence on 20th-century culture.
