Casas Bahia faces massive debt and judicial recovery

Casas Bahia is facing significant financial pressure as the company navigates a judicial recovery process to renegotiate R$ 17.3 billion owed to over 28,000 creditors. In addition to these debts, there are approximately R$ 11 billion in extra-concursal credits that fall outside the legal recovery process.

Data from the Institute of Studies of Title Protests of Brazil (IEPTB) reveals that the company has 4,457 protested debts across Brazil, totaling R$ 235.7 million. Regional highlights include São Paulo with 1,694 protests (R$ 69 million) and Rio de Janeiro with 1,374 (R$ 7.1 million). In the Grande ABC region, the company has R$ 8.7 million in protested debts, with São Caetano accounting for the largest portion at R$ 7.2 million.

Simultaneously, the company is conducting an auction via the Kwara platform involving approximately 130 appliances located in Jundiaí, São Paulo. Bids for items such as stoves and washing machines start as low as R$ 291. The company stated that these auctions are a recurring practice involving products from its Technical Assistance Department and that physical and e-commerce operations continue normally.
