Cascais and Lisbon report progress on housing and urban infrastructure
Municipal leaders in Cascais and Lisbon are reporting on their respective progress regarding housing, education, and urban infrastructure.
In Cascais, the administration has set a goal to provide 3,600 housing solutions by 2029. During its first year, the council reported an average of one house being assigned per day to residents and has begun studying new municipal housing projects, including Build to Rent models and cooperative developments. The city has also focused on healthcare expansion through new SNS service points and education, including a 32 million euro investment in the new Cascais Secondary School.
In Lisbon, the municipal government has completed a 560 million euro investment program focused on housing. This includes the rehabilitation of 2,000 municipal apartments and the delivery of over 3,440 keys to residents. To address the housing crisis, the city has implemented measures to limit local lodging in historic districts and launched a program to rehabilitate properties in neighborhoods like Alfama and Baixa for affordable rental by young families, aiming for 700 such units by 2029.
