Cascais Municipality acquires Atlântida Cine for 600,000 euros

The Cascais Municipality has completed the acquisition of the historic Atlântida Cine in Carcavelos for 600,000 euros. The deed for the purchase was signed on September 23, following unanimous approval from the municipal executive in June.

The local government intends to recover the emblematic cultural space and ensure its continued use for cinematographic activities. While the building may host other cultural initiatives, Mayor Nuno Piteira Lopes emphasized a commitment to maintaining cinema as a central part of the venue’s identity and programming.

The next phase involves assessing the building's condition to identify the necessary renovations required for its reopening to the public. The municipality has expressed openness to proposals from cultural and cinematic agents regarding management, programming, and potential partnerships to promote Portuguese cinema and community engagement.
