Cascais municipality seeks extra PSP officers for summer beach crowds
The president of Cascais municipality, Nuno Piteira Lopes, wrote to Luís Elias, commander of the Lisbon Metropolitan Police Command (Cometlis), requesting reinforcement of the local Public Security Police (PSP) division. He noted that the municipality, home to more than 240,000 residents, sees a significant increase in population during the summer as thousands of beachgoers arrive.
The Cascais PSP division is authorized for about 500 officers but currently has roughly 320, leaving a shortfall of around 180 personnel. The mayor offered administrative and logistical support from the municipality to help implement the reinforcement. The division serves the areas of Cascais, Estoril, Parede, Carcavelos and Trajouce, and includes rapid intervention teams, a traffic section, and recently transferred criminal investigation responsibilities to the Lisbon division.
