Cascais plans speed radars and central divider for Marginal road
The Mayor of Cascais, Nuno Piteira Lopes, has announced plans to install speed radars and a central divider on the Marginal (EN6) between Carcavelos and São João do Estoril by 2027. The initiative aims to improve road safety and maintenance on the stretch of road.
The implementation of these measures depends on the municipality assuming management of the road from Infraestruturas de Portugal. The Cascais City Council has already approved the transition of management for the Marginal and two other roads. A discussion regarding this transfer is scheduled for the Municipal Assembly on October 29, 2026.
Regarding funding, Mayor Lopes denied intentions to introduce tolls on the route, stating that the municipality is seeking alternative financing to avoid placing the investment burden on local taxpayers. He emphasized that the municipality is taking action to ensure safety and quality of life for road users if the state fails to provide adequate maintenance.
