Casella Waste Systems Starts RNG Operations at Hyland Landfill in New York
Casella Waste Systems, Inc. and Waga Energy have begun commercial production at the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility located at the Hyland Landfill in Angelica, New York. The plant uses Waga Energy’s patented WAGABOX® technology to upgrade landfill gas, providing a processing capacity of 3,000 SCFM and generating up to 610,000 MMBtu (about 180 GWh) of pipeline‑quality RNG per year. The gas is injected directly into the Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage network, offering a renewable alternative to fossil natural gas.
The project, fully funded and owned by Waga Energy, is the second of three RNG projects that Casella has brought online with the partner, following a facility in Chemung County. It is expected to avoid roughly 47,000 tons of CO₂‑equivalent emissions annually, supporting Casella’s broader strategy to capture value from waste and transition to renewable energy sources.
