Casely recalls 429,000 Power Pods after overheating reports and a fatality

Casely and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reannounced a recall of the Casely Power Pods wireless charger, model E33A, 5,000mAh, affecting 429,000 units. The recall follows 51 reports of lithium-ion batteries overheating, expanding, or catching fire, with multiple injuries reported.

An updated recall adds 28 additional overheating reports, including a serious incident on a plane and the death of a 75-year-old New Jersey woman who suffered burns. The company and USCPSC describe the incidents as dangerous enough to halt use of the device.

Consumers are urged to stop using the devices immediately, dispose of them safely, and seek a replacement from the manufacturer. A recall issued the previous year for the same product preceded this reannouncement.
