Casemiro's own goal marbles Inter Miami debut as MLS probes transfer

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro scored an own goal in Inter Miami's home debut, a 2‑2 draw with Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer. The error came early in the first half, turning a 1‑0 lead into a tie before Inter Miami regained the advantage and later conceded again to finish level.

Casemiro, a former Real Madrid and Manchester United player, joined Inter Miami on a one‑year deal with an option to extend through 2029 after leaving Europe. His arrival was highlighted by the presence of Lionel Messi, who entered the match as a substitute.

The signing has sparked a league investigation after LA Galaxy, which held Casemiro's MLS discovery rights, filed a grievance alleging Inter Miami engaged in unauthorized contract talks. Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said Casemiro initially expressed a desire to play for the Galaxy before choosing Miami. MLS has opened a formal probe into possible tampering, while Inter Miami’s managing owner Jorge Mas maintains the club complied with league rules.
