Caserne de Bonne redevelopment to include Lidl in Grenoble
The company Mercialys has unveiled a redevelopment plan for the Caserne de Bonne in Grenoble, which includes reducing the number of commercial units from 48 to 28. As part of this restructuring, a Lidl discount supermarket is scheduled to open opposite a Monoprix by the end of 2027.
This project follows a significant decline in the site's performance. Since its inauguration in 2010, annual visitor numbers have dropped from 4 million to just over 2.5 million. The site, once a flagship commercial project for the city, has faced increasing vacancy, with only about twenty units currently occupied. This downturn reflects broader economic challenges in Grenoble, where commercial vacancy rates have risen from 6% in 2014 to 14% today.
