Caserta festival occupies Piazza Sant’Anna to address social issues

The cultural festival ‘Un Borgo di Libri’ has moved its activities to Piazza Sant’Anna in Caserta as a response to recent social tragedies and local indifference. The festival aims to address the plight of the city’s most vulnerable residents following two recent deaths in the city center.

The first incident involved Guido, a homeless former waiter, who was killed in Piazza Sant’Anna. The second involved Ahmed, a 65-year-old Algerian man who died at the Monument to the Fallen, a common refuge for the homeless.

Festival director Luigi Ferraiuolo stated that the decision to occupy the square is an attempt to combat indifference through social engagement. The festival will use ‘impossible interviews’ to draw public attention to these locations and spark awareness regarding the social emergencies affecting the area.
