Caserta man arrested for impersonating Carabinieri officer in fraud scam

A young man from the province of Caserta has been arrested following an investigation into an aggravated fraud scheme targeting an elderly woman.

According to investigators from the Brindisi State Police, the victim was contacted by telephone by an individual impersonating a Carabinieri marshal. The suspect falsely claimed the victim's daughter was in custody and pressured the woman into handing over cash and gold jewelry to secure her release. The victim subsequently realized she had been deceived after delivering 2,400 euros in cash to an accomplice.

A precautionary detention order was issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations (G.I.P.) of the Brindisi Court at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.
