Caserta municipal commissarial management extended by six months

The Italian Ministry of the Interior has extended the commissarial management of the Municipality of Caserta for an additional six months. This decision aims to complete the ongoing reorganization of the local government and restore legality within the institution.

The extension follows a report from the Prefect of Caserta, which noted that while progress has been made, the administrative and legal recovery process is not yet complete. The decision was supported by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, including representatives from the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.

Key challenges facing the municipality include significant administrative and financial instability, stemming from previous fiscal collapses in 2011 and 2018. The Regional Audit Court has identified various accounting and financial irregularities between 2018 and 2024 that threaten the entity's budget balance. Critical areas requiring oversight include waste management, parking services, and the census and repurposing of assets confiscated from organized crime.
