Caserta opposes waste treatment project at Cava Iuliano quarry

The Municipality of Caserta has reaffirmed its opposition to a project involving the decommissioning, recovery, and reuse of the limestone quarry located in the San Clemente district, known as ‘Cava Iuliano’.

During a services conference, the municipality expressed a non-favorable opinion regarding the industrial and productive reuse of the site, specifically opposing the establishment of a facility designed to receive and treat non-hazardous special waste. The municipality cited concerns regarding the impact of heavy vehicle traffic on local road safety and potential environmental pollution.

The project in question involves the reception of 108,000 tons of external materials annually for treatment and the subsequent commercialization of produced aggregates. The municipality clarified that it has not proposed any urban planning variations to allow productive settlement in the area, which is currently classified as agricultural.
