Italian police seize illegal fishing nets and step up coastal safety measures

The Provincial Police of Caserta confiscated more than 30 metres of illegal “killer” fishing nets valued at about €4,000 in a raid at Castel Volturno. The operation, led by Colonel Biagio Chiariello and supported by the environmental groups Domizia and Fly Liternum, aimed to protect marine fauna such as the Caretta caretta turtle.

A separate rescue operation by the Guardia Costiera saved 46 migrants (40 Bangladeshi, 6 Egyptian) 55 nm off Pozzallo after three days at sea, providing medical care for scabies and infections. Additional safety actions included a task‑force inspection in Capri that closed a night‑club for fire‑code violations and a joint police‑local force operation in Cesenatico targeting beach‑area disorder and minor crimes. These coordinated efforts reflect a broad push by Italian authorities to curb illegal activities and improve public safety along the country’s coasts and tourist locales.
