Casey Affleck discusses Matt Damon and career at Zurich Film Festival

During a masterclass at the Zurich Film Festival, actor and director Casey Affleck reflected on his career, his relationship with childhood friend Matt Damon, and his preference for being a ‘Hollywood outsider.’

Affleck discussed growing up in Massachusetts alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, noting that while they shared a theater teacher, Damon’s outgoing personality and talent made his future superstardom evident from a young age. He described Damon as having a unique ‘matinee idol appeal’ that distinguishes him from the Affleck brothers.

Affleck also shared anecdotes regarding his work with director Christopher Nolan, describing the experience of working on sets like ‘Oppenheimer’ as an honor. He noted Nolan’s inclusive approach and his tendency to create films based on personal interest rather than pandering to audiences. Additionally, Affleck touched upon his third directorial feature, ‘Company,’ mentioning his desire to continue refining the project.
