Casey Stoner criticizes test role and vows not to share MotoGP knowledge for free
Former MotoGP champion Casey Stoner’s approach as a Ducati test rider has drawn criticism. Former rider Michele Pirro said Stoner used testing sessions to showcase his speed rather than provide systematic feedback, describing his riding style as “unique” and difficult for the team to translate into development work. Pirro recalled that other riders, such as Jorge Lorenzo, struggled to complete laps on the same setup Stoner preferred.
Stoner, now retired for nearly 15 years, has recently spoken about feeling underappreciated for the advice he gives current riders. At the World Ducati Week and Goodwood Festival of Speed events, Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia thanked Stoner for his help in Ducati’s recent championship wins. Stoner said he will no longer share his knowledge “for nothing,” citing past experiences where his contributions were taken for granted. He also mentioned a recent back‑surgery that limited his involvement this season.
