Casey's General Stores reports Q1 sales growth driven by prepared food
Casey's General Stores reported its first-quarter fiscal year 2027 earnings, highlighted by a 3.2% increase in inside same-store sales compared to the previous year. CEO Darren Rebelez described the performance as “outstanding,” noting that prepared food and dispensed beverages were primary drivers of growth. Specifically, whole pizza sales showed strong performance, while energy drinks and nicotine alternatives saw double-digit growth.
Despite the positive sales figures and a nearly 28% increase in diluted earnings per share, the company's stock experienced a significant decline, dropping over 10% following the release. Analysts suggest the market reaction may be a knee-jerk response to maintained guidance rather than a reflection of underlying business strength. The company is currently executing a three-year strategic plan focused on food offerings, customer satisfaction, and store expansion.
