Cashius Howell emerges as key rookie for Cincinnati Bengals defense

Cincinnati Bengals second-round pick Cashius Howell is emerging as a potential early contributor to the team's defense. The defensive end, drafted out of Texas A&M, showed promise during the team's preseason opener against Detroit, demonstrating speed, a quick first step, and various pass-rushing moves.

While scouting reports previously ranked Howell lower than his draft position, his performance in preseason play has highlighted his ability to attack offensive tackles. Although he lacks elite length compared to some top edge rushers, his burst and instinctive play make him a candidate to compete for a role as a pass rusher or third-down specialist.

Howell joins other rookies, such as cornerback Tacario Davis, who are working to secure roles on the 53-man roster to support the team's high-salary veterans.
