Casimiro Curbelo rejects left-wing coalition for Spanish elections

Casimiro Curbelo, President of the Cabildo of La Gomera, has addressed the upcoming Spanish general elections scheduled for November 29. Curbelo characterized the election as a vital opportunity for citizens to decide the country's direction, moving beyond mere parliamentary deadlock to reflect on public priorities such as housing, employment, and social protection.

Regarding political alliances, Curbelo has rejected joining a left-wing coalition with the Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG). He stated that decisions regarding government pacts will be deferred until after the regional elections in May. His strategy aims to maintain ASG's three deputies and negotiate based on election results.

This stance comes as Nueva Canarias attempts to build a shared candidacy with parties including Podemos, Izquierda Unida, and Sumar for the general elections. In La Gomera, Curbelo indicated he would support the ASG candidate for the Senate while allowing freedom of vote in the Congress, noting that Gomera elects its own senator while Congress votes are integrated into the Santa Cruz de Tenerife constituency.
