Casino de Viña del Mar sued over 4.6 billion peso jackpot dispute
Lilian Tumani has filed a civil lawsuit and infraction complaint against Casino de Viña del Mar, seeking 4,670,095,401 Chilean pesos. The legal action follows a dispute over a purported slot machine jackpot of approximately 3,816 million pesos.
The casino's operating companies, including Casino del Mar S.A., Enjoy S.A., and Casinos de Chile SpA, contend that the massive figure displayed on the machine was the result of a technical malfunction rather than a legitimate jackpot. They argue the software, manufactured by Konami Gaming, exhibited “anomalous behavior” and produced incoherent numbers. The casino has offered to pay the maximum amount permitted under the machine’s official regulatory pay table, but the plaintiff has rejected these settlements.
In addition to the original prize amount, Tumani is demanding legal interest adjusted by inflation and 750 million pesos for moral damages. The casino's defense highlights Tumani’s extensive experience as a gambler, noting she has logged over 1,350 hours of play and 1.2 million prior wagers at the establishment. The Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego and forensic experts are expected to determine if the event was a binding win or a non-binding programming error.
