Casino Group CEO calls for support of local retail in 2027 election

Philippe Palazzi, the CEO of Casino Group, has called on candidates for the 2027 French presidential election to prioritize the preservation of local businesses in city centers and rural regions.

In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, Palazzi argued that the future of large-scale retail lies in small-scale local distribution, noting that consumer habits are shifting away from weekly hypermarket trips toward more frequent, local purchases. To support these businesses, he suggested improving city center accessibility through measures such as park-and-ride systems connected to free shuttles.

Palazzi also expressed support for voluntary Sunday afternoon store openings, provided employees receive increased compensation. He noted that current Sunday closures disadvantage physical stores compared to online platforms that operate seven days a week.

Strategically, Casino is expanding its service offerings to include parcel relay, small appliance rentals, and luggage storage. Most notably, the group aims to have take-away food and snacking account for 50% of its total revenue within the next decade.
