Casino Group undergoes global retail restructuring and asset sales
The Casino Group is undergoing significant structural changes and asset divestments across its global operations. In Uruguay, the Libertad brand, which holds a 50% stake in the Piano brand, continues to maintain a presence with approximately 25 locations.
As part of a broader strategy to manage debt and optimize its portfolio, Casino has been selling various business units. This includes the sale of its Indonesian operations to CT Corp and the previous acquisition of an 80% stake in its Myanmar business from Suning. The company is also adjusting its footprint in Brazil, where it holds 20% of the grocery market, and has engaged in various transactions involving supermarket chains like Supersol and Wellcome Taiwan.
In addition to these international shifts, the company is refining its hypermarket formats to include diverse sectors such as electronics, home, and leisure. CEO Alexandre Bompard's compensation has also been noted amidst these corporate transitions.
