Casio AI pet robot Moflin used for psychological care in Japanese school
Casio Computer Co., Ltd. is expanding the application of its AI pet robot, Moflin, which uses proprietary emotional AI to react to human interaction with over 4 million possible responses. A new sakura-colored version of the palm-sized robot was released on September 4, 2026.
In an educational setting, Ritsumeikan Moriyama Junior and Senior High School in Shiga Prefecture has launched a verification project to use Moflin for psychological care in school health rooms. Starting September 1, the school will study the robot's impact on student and teacher well-being, anxiety levels, and communication patterns. The study, running through March 2027, will collect quantitative data such as visit frequency and stay duration, alongside qualitative interviews to determine if the AI robot can serve as a 'buddy' to support student mental health.
