Casio debuts Akiko’s Piano digital sound source in Germany
Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has debuted the European premiere of its ‘Akiko’s Piano’ digital sound source at the Martha Argerich Festival 2026 in Hamburg, Germany. The project aims to preserve the sound of a historic 1926 upright piano that was damaged during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.
To achieve this, Casio recorded the sound of all 88 keys of the original instrument to reconstruct it as a digital sound source. During the festival, Casio showcased the technology through a dedicated CELVIANO booth at the Laeiszhalle venue.
Musical performances featuring the digital sound source included a June 27 performance by pianist Akane Sakai during the stage production ‘The Postman of Nagasaki.’ This was followed on June 29 by the world premiere of ‘Akiko’s Piano – Piano Concerto No. 4’ by composer Dai Fujikura, also performed by Sakai using Casio CELVIANO digital pianos.
