Casio launches brain-health focused keyboards

Casio is launching new models of its Light Navigation Keyboard, the LK-550 and LK-350, on September 4. To mark the 30th anniversary of the series, the flagship LK-550 incorporates features developed through joint research with the University of Tokyo’s Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology to promote brain health through music.

The LK-550 introduces “Brain Activation BGM” and “Brain Activation Karaoke.” The BGM feature includes 30 tracks categorized into “Productivity” (fast tempo to aid work efficiency) and “Relaxation” (slow tempo to enhance prefrontal cortex activity). The karaoke feature includes 96 songs designed to stimulate spatial cognition by requiring users to follow lyrics and rhythm while the melody volume is intentionally lowered.

Previous research conducted with Tohoku University has already demonstrated that playing specific rhythmic phrases can increase cerebral blood flow. New studies suggest that the karaoke function may also assist with oral motor functions and cognitive health in seniors by improving the speed of brain activity responses.
