Casio tests AI pet robot Moflin in Japanese school health rooms

Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has launched a verification project using its AI pet robot, ‘Moflin’, to support psychological well-being in an educational setting. Starting September 1, 2026, additional Moflin units will be introduced to the health room at Ritsumeikan Moriyama Junior and Senior High School in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.

The project aims to evaluate the impact of the robot on the psychological states of both students and teachers, as well as changes in visiting behavior to the health room. Researchers will collect quantitative data, such as the number of visitors, duration of stays, and revisit rates, alongside qualitative data gathered through surveys and interviews conducted at one, three, and seven-month intervals.

Moflin is an AI-driven robot designed to develop a unique personality based on user interaction, capable of forming over 4 million different character variations. The study seeks to determine if the robot can serve as a ‘buddy’ to help regulate emotions and act as a catalyst for communication and relationship building within the school environment.
