Casotranscat calls for road repairs to match customs updates
The President of the Táchira Freight Transport Social Chamber (Casotranscat), Álbaro Rodríguez Paz, has called for the urgent repair of key roads to match recent customs modernization efforts. While the National Integrated Customs and Tax Administration Service (Seniat) has announced measures to reduce bureaucracy, costs, and processing times, transport leaders argue that these improvements must be accompanied by infrastructure recovery.
Rodríguez Paz highlighted the deteriorating state of the Rubio-El Corozo road, noting it has become a safety risk for drivers due to accidents and vehicle damage. Additionally, the Ureña-El Vallado route, considered strategic for reducing costs and time, has been closed to heavy cargo trucks for three years and was only recently reopened for empty vehicles. The chamber is also urging authorities to allow heavy vehicles to use the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge, which currently only permits light vehicles and buses.
