Caspian Airlines aircraft seized at Istanbul Airport over debt

Turkish authorities seized a Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to Iran’s Caspian Airlines at Istanbul Airport on Monday. The seizure occurred just as the plane was preparing for takeoff to Tehran, after passengers and crew had already boarded.

The action was taken following a court order related to an unpaid debt of approximately 3 million euros owed to the Turkish aviation services company ACM Temsil Gözetim. Upon the arrival of lawyers and enforcement officers, passengers were forced to disembark and return to the terminal.

While the incident occurred shortly after new US sanctions were imposed on the Iranian aviation sector, Turkish officials and media reports indicated the seizure was due to a commercial dispute rather than compliance with US sanctions. Caspian Airlines described the situation as temporary operational restrictions caused by an administrative issue in Turkey and stated that efforts are underway to resolve the matter.
