Cassandra Light recovering after shooting in Tijuana

Cassandra Light, a life‑coach from Mission Beach, California, was driving from Rosarito to San Diego in mid‑June when a masked assailant blocked her vehicle on a busy Tijuana road and opened fire. One bullet passed through the driver’s side window; a second shattered her tibia and fibula, forcing her from the car. Two witnesses applied a makeshift tourniquet that she credits with saving her life, and her golden retriever, Ellie, also escaped unharmed.

Light received initial emergency care in Tijuana before being transferred across the border to U.S. paramedics and taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego. She spent ten days in the trauma unit and has undergone four surgeries, leaving a metal plate, rod and screws in her leg. Although her cast and stitches have been removed, doctors say she will be unable to bear weight on the injured leg for at least six months, limiting her mobility and forcing a pause to her coaching business. The investigation remains open, with Mexican authorities having made no arrests as of early August and the FBI’s San Diego field office still seeking information.
