Giuseppe Scorza killed in Lauropoli ambush

An early morning ambush in the Lauropoli district of Cassano allo Ionio has left one man dead and another seriously injured. Giuseppe Scorza, 36, was killed during the attack, which occurred around 5:38 AM near an office used by a green maintenance and cleaning company. Renato Elia, the owner of the company and a colleague of Scorza, was also shot and wounded but managed to reach a nearby bar to seek assistance. He remains in serious but stable condition.

Carabinieri investigators are examining the scene and reviewing surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators, who are believed to be a commando of at least two individuals. Authorities are investigating a potential link to organized crime, specifically the 'ndrangheta, noting that the victim's father, Maurizio Scorza, was murdered alongside his wife in 2022.

Local officials, including the Mayor of Cassano allo Ionio, Gianpaolo Iacobini, have expressed deep concern regarding a possible resurgence of clan-related violence in the region. Bishop Francesco Savino also addressed the community, calling for unity and strength in the face of the violence.
