Cassano allo Ionio farm vandalism: 100 citrus trees destroyed, mayor vows justice

Unknown perpetrators cut down about one hundred young citrus trees at the Fratelli Federico farm in Cassano allo Ionio during the night. The attack, described by the mayor as “a gesture of extreme gravity”, damaged a prized L7 orange cultivar recently planted.

Mayor Gianpaolo Iacobini visited the site with councilors Annamaria Bianchi and Ida Spezzano, expressed solidarity with the owners and workers, and pledged that the authorities will bring the culprits to justice. The Carabinieri of the local company have opened an investigation to reconstruct the facts and identify those responsible. Regional Agriculture Assessor Gianluca Gallo also condemned the act, emphasizing its impact on the local agricultural sector and the community.
