Cassava processing facility commissioned in Ahanta West

A new cassava processing plant has been commissioned at Apemanim in the Ahanta West Municipality of Ghana’s Western Region. The facility is designed to reduce post-harvest losses and increase farmer incomes by processing fresh cassava into dough and gari.

The project received funding from the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the Norwegian Government, with counterpart funding provided by the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly through the LoCAL-ACE facility.

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, noted that the initiative aims to help farmers adapt to climate change and strengthen the local economy. Municipal Chief Executive Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo stated that a business model is being developed to ensure efficient management and community ownership, providing a reliable market for farmers during bumper harvests.
