Cassidy Hutchinson faces potential DOJ indictment over January 6 testimony

The Department of Justice is reportedly seeking a federal criminal indictment against former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson for allegedly lying to Congress. Prosecutors from the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division have begun presenting evidence to a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., regarding Hutchinson’s January 6, 2021, testimony.

Hutchinson, a former aide to Mark Meadows, provided high-profile testimony to the House January 6 Committee in 2022. Her accounts included claims that Donald Trump was indifferent to supporters carrying weapons and an allegation that he attempted to lunge at a Secret Service agent to grab the steering wheel of his presidential vehicle. However, these specific claims have been disputed by the vehicle's driver and other Secret Service personnel.

While the DOJ has not confirmed the existence of the investigation, reports indicate that additional witnesses and evidence may be presented to the grand jury later this month. Hutchinson has not yet been subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury.
