Cassiel Ato Forson approves security rent allowances and urges fund recovery
Ghanaian Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has approved the payment of overdue rent allowances for security personnel, covering the period from January to September 2026. The allowances are intended for members of the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana Prisons Service to assist with housing costs.
The Ministry of the Interior noted that the delay was due to necessary validation processes involving various security agencies. The approval follows concerns raised by the Minority in Parliament regarding the financial strain placed on officers, particularly prison staff.
In a separate initiative, Dr Forson has called for increased financial accountability among public officials. During an engagement in Tamale regarding the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report, he urged regional and local government leaders to ensure the recovery and proper use of all state funds, emphasizing that mismanaged resources directly impact the delivery of essential services like healthcare and education.
