Cassano Magnago investigation upgraded to femicide after fatal crash

Authorities in Cassano Magnago have upgraded an investigation into a fatal head-on collision to a femicide case. Pierina Buffon, 69, died on Friday morning after her vehicle was struck by a Jaguar driven by her ex-partner, 73-year-old Fulvio Ielmini.

While the incident was initially considered a potential medical emergency causing a lane departure, investigators now believe Ielmini may have intentionally invaded the victim's lane. The victim's family has alleged a pattern of stalking and harassment, claiming the son possesses video evidence of Ielmini following and waiting for Buffon.

Legal counsel for the victim confirmed that a formal complaint regarding Ielmini's persecutory behavior was filed in late July. The relationship, which lasted eight years, ended in June when Buffon decided to terminate the partnership. Ielmini remains hospitalized in Varese with injuries and is under police guard as the Procura di Busto Arsizio continues its inquiry.
