Cassino Secures Provincial and Municipal Backing for 2029 Italian Capital of Culture Bid

The Provincial Council of Frosinone voted unanimously to endorse Cassino’s candidacy for the 2029 Italian Capital of Culture, incorporating the project into the province’s strategic programming. The motion, presented by Mayor Enzo Salera and councilor Luca Fardelli, aims to leverage the 1,500‑year anniversary of the Montecassino Abbey, the 40th anniversary of the local automotive plant, and the 50th anniversary of the University of Cassino and Lazio Meridionale to boost tourism, the regional economy and cultural cohesion.

Gaeta’s municipal government, led by Mayor Cristian Leccese, also passed a formal resolution supporting the bid. The city highlighted its historic ties with Cassino, including the university’s management of Gaeta’s Castello Angioino, and stressed the collaborative potential of the two coastal‑inland communities in a shared cultural development strategy.
