Cast of ‘The Chef of South Polar’ reunites for 4K remaster announcement

Cast members of the film ‘The Chef of South Polar’ gathered in Tokyo for a special reunion event celebrating the upcoming 4K remaster release of the 2009 hit. The event, held to commemorate the film's popularity in a fan vote organized for the 80th anniversary of Tokyo Theatre, featured lead actor Masato Sakai, Katsuhisa Namase, and director Shuichi Okita.

During the event, the actors reminisced about specific scenes, including a humorous discussion regarding a spiny lobster fried shrimp dish that was portrayed as unpopular in the film but was actually delicious according to the cast. Masato Sakai expressed his gratitude for the wonderful team and the warm impact the film continues to have on viewers.

In a surprise appearance, Karin Ono, who played Sakai’s daughter in the original film, joined the cast. Now 28, she shared her reflections on working with Sakai when she was 10 years old. The 4K remastered version of ‘The Chef of South Polar’ is scheduled for release on November 13 at Theatre Shinjuku and Theatre Umeda.
