Castel Lagopesole station interchange works begin in Avigliano

Work has commenced on the interchange area at the Castel Lagopesole railway station in the municipality of Avigliano. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) announced that the redevelopment and functionalization of the station's external square began on August 17.

The project is funded by the Basilicata Region with 900,000 euros through the 2014-2020 Complementary Operational Program. The works aim to better integrate rail and road transport by widening the external square to allow buses up to ten meters in length to maneuver. Additional features will include long-term and short-term parking, spaces for individuals with reduced mobility, electric vehicle charging stations, and bicycle racks.

Pasquale Pepe, the Vice President and Councilor for Infrastructure and Transport of the Basilicata Region, stated that the project is part of a broader program to create new rail-road interchange nodes. A second phase of the project, valued at 1.4 million euros, is currently in the planning stages to complete the interchange area.
